Recently, a report titled “Ansar members accused of beating a student, students block railway lines in protest, vandalism” published in Prothom Alo, focusing on the incident of beating a student of Rajshahi University at Rajshahi Railway Station, mentioned the involvement of Ansar members. The matter has come to the attention of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Force. The information about the involvement of Ansar members in the published report is not correct and does not correspond to the actual incident.
In fact, an unexpected incident occurred between members of the Railway Security Force (RNB) and a student of Rajshahi University at Rajshahi Railway Station at around 11 pm on Sunday. In protest of this incident, Rajshahi University students later formed a human chain, demonstrated and raised various slogans. At that time, some aggrieved students mistakenly referred to the Railway Security Force members as Ansar members and chanted slogans as the night clothes were similar to those of Ansar members.
Later, the students realized that the concerned persons were members of the Railway Security Force (RNB) and not Ansar members. According to the information of the Railway Authority's office, four members of the RNB have been temporarily suspended in the same incident. As a result, there is no question of the involvement of Ansar members in the incident.
Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force clearly states that no Ansar members were involved in the incident of beating a student of Rajshahi University at Rajshahi Railway Station. Therefore, presenting Ansar members as involved in this incident without verifying the actual information is very misleading and there is a risk of unduly tarnishing the image of a disciplined and responsible force.
Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Force requests all concerned media outlets to verify the facts and report the news and to make necessary corrections regarding the involvement of Ansar members in the published report.
