Coordination Meeting Held to Enhance Dynamism and Accountability in BOU's Field-Level Operations
Gazipur Correspondent: A quarterly exchange meeting was held with the aim of improving the quality of field-level services, accelerating operational activities, and swiftly resolving various student issues at the Bangladesh Open University (BOU). The meeting took place on Wednesday morning (October 7) at the Vice-Chancellor's conference room in Gazipur, presided over by BOU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan. Attendees included Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Sirajul Islam, Treasurer Professor Dr. Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, and Registrar TM Ahmed Hussain, alongside deans of various schools, department directors, program officers, and regional center directors.
Special emphasis was placed on maximizing the use of technology to alleviate student hardships and strengthening coordination among relevant departments. Fruitful discussions were held regarding simplifying the certificate correction process, organizing regular coordination meetings at sub-regional centers, and ensuring cooperation from local administrations during examinations. Furthermore, the meeting stressed the timely publication of academic calendars for all BOU schools, the formulation of an updated transfer policy for officers and staff, regular training to enhance workforce skills, and the strengthening of promotional activities and branding to inform students about new programs. Participants also urged the authorities to consider further reducing admission fees for transgender and female students. Additionally, officials expressed their views on ensuring the comprehensive use of technology to prevent unfair means during examinations.
Moderated by Professor Dr. Abu Taleb, Director (Additional Charge) of the Student Support Services Division, the meeting saw the Vice-Chancellor attentively listening to the various grievances and suggestions of the participants. In his remarks, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan stated that, despite limited manpower and financial constraints, the university would move forward to resolve these issues in phases based on priority. Emphasizing that BOU is not merely a factory for issuing certificates, the Vice-Chancellor firmly stated that it is an institution dedicated to academic achievement, with the primary goal of ensuring quality education for students. He mentioned that, alongside technological advancements, initiatives are underway to rapidly implement an e-attendance system to help achieve this objective. He also urged everyone involved to perform their duties with sincerity and full cooperation to ensure the successful conduct of BOU’s upcoming sixth convocation and University Day.
Meanwhile, a two-day seminar organized by BOU’s Liberation War Research Centre concluded today. The closing ceremony was attended by numerous participants, including teachers, students, and four researchers. In his address, the chief guest—BOU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan—stressed the need to preserve the history of the Liberation War in an objective and research-based manner, calling upon everyone to come forward in this endeavor.
